Some stuff from the chat room that is relevant here. I'm just trying to breathe a bit of life back into the forums. I might even reshuffle/add/remove forum categories soon, as these ones aren't garnering much interest, even from me.

[19:49] <+Cyberkilla> I thought that it was going to be the easiest of them all, but it really wasn't (smiley)
[19:50] <+Cyberkilla> Next up is an action which can be configured to ask for pa**words, an action to demand that you possess/have equipped certain items, and one which checks to see if npcs are dead yet.
[19:50] <+Cyberkilla> The latter is cool, because it means you can force a player to empty a room before they can move to the next chamber.
[19:51] <+Cyberkilla> And it also allows you to deny access until boss npcs are dead - just like I used to do with the shadow sentinels (and will again when I make this action(smiley))
[19:52] <+Cyberkilla> The item one is also good, because it means you can demand a player has a certain tool, or clothing before moving on. A space suit for walking outside of the ship, for instance.

I think that would be a good idea, but it takes people posting to bring a forum back to life. Which I shall help with. I love being a part of the forum community and I will start posting more, but there has been nothing recent to post on
Except this of course, and I love the ideas.

Quote from News Box
"Portal [Pa**word Required]" has been installed; create doorways which demand a pa**word before granting access!

Each portal can have up to 15 different pa**words, enabling you to hand out temporary ones, then revoke them without having to notify everyone of the new pa**word.

There are a number of other portal actions still to come, including one which checks to see whether you've killed all of the NPCs in the room, and another which checks to see whether you have a certain item equipped.

The latter will be useful for checking pa**-card items, or requiring a radiation suit before entering a chamber flooded with gamma rays, etc. The possibilities are endless!

Just a handful more of these action and NPC scripts, and we'll see an explosion of quests and things to do(smiley)

[17:27] <+Cyberkilla> Nearly finished portal_on_kill now (smiley)
[17:27] <+Cyberkilla> Probably another hour of work left in it, but it's late now and I'm tired. I'll probably have it done at some point tomorrow.
[17:28] <+Cyberkilla> You will be able to deny access by checking both boss and normal npcs in the same portal action.
[17:28] <+Cyberkilla> - Portal If All NPCs On Map Are Dead
[17:28] <+Cyberkilla> - Portal If NPCs of the Chosen NPC Type Are Dead
[17:29] <+Cyberkilla> - Portal If All Boss NPCs on map are Dead
[17:29] <+Cyberkilla> - Portal If All Chosen Boss NPCs On Map Are Dead
[17:29] <+Cyberkilla> And for the boss NPCs, you can select a "kill mode":
[17:29] <+Cyberkilla> - Globally Dead Only (boss's health hit zero)
[17:30] <+Cyberkilla> - Guild Successfully Raided (locally dead, until you can raid it again), or Globally Dead
[17:30] <+Cyberkilla> So essentially, you can block access by checking whether bosses were killed globally, and every guild is awaiting their respawn..
[17:31] <+Cyberkilla> ... or you can check whether a boss has been raided successfully by a guild. This is like when a player attacks an npc - there is a personal respawn period, which is only for that individual player/guild.
[17:33] <+Cyberkilla> If you aren't in a guild, I think the portal will probably just have to deny you access, unless the Boss NPC is globally dead? That's the only way I can think of handling that situation(smiley)

In case you need a summary for that incoherence, here it is:

There will soon be another type of doorway available in the World Builder, which people can put on their maps. It denies you access until you have:
  • Attacked all of the NPCs on the map, or just the ones of a certain NPC Type (e.g. Mutant Rats)
  • Raided all of the Bosses on the map, or just the ones specified by the creator of the map.
The Boss NPCs are a little more complex, because you can set the doorway to demand that the Boss NPCs are globally dead (their health dropped to zero, and all guilds are awaiting their respawn), or locally dead (your guild raided them recently and is waiting to be able to raid them again).

It's a great tool for making dungeon maps, where you don't want people to proceed to the next chamber until they've cleared the current one.

I'd have finished it tonight, but I ran out of time. It will probably be available for players with access to the World Builder tomorrow (Sunday 6th February 2011).

I've finally replaced the terrible placeholder icons on the World Builder's map viewer with slightly less atrocious ones:
